Looking for a DIY project this summer that you can create then enjoy year round? Check out this lip balm how-to and avoid the unwanted dyes, petroleum products, preservatives, and long list of ingredients from store-bought balms.
1 tablespoon beeswax beads
1 tablespoon pure shea butter
2 tablespoons sweet almond oil
10-15 drops essential oils
Melt beeswax, shea butter, and almond oil together in the top of a double boiler or in a heat-safe bowl set over a pot of simmering water; stir continuously with a whisk. Once the ingredients are liquefied, remove them from heat. Whisk in the essential oil(s) of your choice and, working quickly, transfer the liquid to a measuring cup or container with a pour spout. Divide the liquid among four ½ ounce lip balm tins and allow to cool until completely solid, about 20 minutes. Keep in a cool, dry place.
Want to treat chapped lips? Try adding 6 drops of peppermint essential oil and 4 drops of eucalyptus to the blend. Creating something that’s for everyday wear? Try 10 drops rose oil and 5 drops vanilla.
