Yoga Journal is More Than a Journal

If you have not started doing Yoga, or have done it on and off and currently in an off period like me, now is the best time to start.  Yoga is a great workout for your body and mind that I have always found very beneficial when I stay consistent.  Like any type of workout, it is important to stay consistent so that you can improve and get the most out of it.

Okay, so may be you have decided to give it a try or start doing yoga on a regular basis, but you have obstacles or more commonly known as excuses.  You could be saying “I don’t belong to a gym or yoga center, My gym doesn’t offer yoga classes, I don’t have the extra money right now, or I just feeling like staying at home.”  These could all be common excuses, but now you can learn movements, do yoga and your only expense is an inexpensive mat.

Yoga

Find out what yoga can do for you and consider spending some time finding balance through yoga poses and practice.

YogaJournal is a comprehensive website with information on living healthy with a focus on yoga.  The part of the site I wanted to focus on that you will be interested in now that you want to start doing yoga is the yoga podcasts.  They have 20-30 minute videos that you can stream or download for free that show all different yoga poses and routines.  You can do yoga from the comfort of your home and once you feel comfortable you can go for a sunrise session on the beach.   Now it’s okay that you do not look as graceful as these people right now, but have patience and open your mind to the benefits of yoga.

Ready, Set, YOGA!

Go get a mat, take some time to view some videos and find one you want to start with.  Dim the lights, calm yourself, clear your mind from the hectic work day and follow along to one of their videos.  Have Fun.

For all those yoga teachers out there, take a look at Yoga Journal’s Colorado Conference later this month.

[…] Do One Yoga Pose a Day—This may sound silly to some of you but doing just one pose a day could make an amazing difference in how you sleep at night, reduce the tension in your body, help clear your mind, and even assist digestion. By spending a few minutes a day stretching in a pose, you can improve the condition of your mind and body with each calming breath. For ideas on where to visit to see poses online or in print, visit a recent blog post here. […]

  • Avoid Stress for Heart Health

[…] Exercises which combine relaxation and breathing are beneficial for reducing stress and improving heart health. Yoga, for example, combines physical work for the body while the mind links to relaxation and focusing on breathing. As you breath you are able to release stress and your heart is benefited by the physical activity and calming movements. T’ai Chi and Qigong also combine these same principals and through practice allow you to better avoid stress and improve your heart health. Here’s more good news: exercises that have a stress-management component (like those listed here) showed a significant drop in LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, as well as significant weight loss when combined with a low-saturated fat diet. Slimmer waist line and less stress? That’s a breath of fresh air! To learn more about yoga and how you can find an inexpensive outlet to this practice, see our recent post. […]
